This was poignant.
And so was this.
The US is not the freest country economically (according to Heritage it is the 10th), but it is the freest in terms of speech and ideas. And that makes it the place where philosophy can have the greatest impact.
I read once that some people try to predict the stock market by Googling for positive or negative terms associated with a particular company name and counting the hits. I wonder if long term success or failure of entire countries could be predicted by searching for positive or negative philosophical/intellectual terms on websites in those countries?
