Human psychology, when amalgamated into polling data, often returns bizarre results. I remember seeing articles about French politics how Sarkozy’s policies would beat Hollande’s soundly, how his UPM would beat the Socialist party handily, but the man Nicolas Sarkozy could never beat the man Francois Hollande.
I’m inclined to agree with Dr. Brook here. Dropping the term “capitalism” would not solve the issue, nobody likes the though that they’re being baited-and-switched, or that Capitalism’s proponents are changing their branding to deflect from some sort of PR disaster. As capitalists we need to be honest, clear-headed and look our fellows in the eyes when we endorse capitalism. I think part of why people’s embrace of capitalism has weakened so much is there are few with the strength to defend it as such.
